Government Subsidies and Supports for Irish Tax Residents 2023

Changes to Social Welfare Benefits for tax payers as well as other supports provided for Irish residents are as follows:


Irish Electricity Customers are due to receive two more credits of €200 in 2023:

January - €200 through your Electricity Provider

March - €200 through your Electricity Provider

Electric Ireland Electricity provider are currently giving €50 Credit when you switch to them.

Remember, always switch your electricity provider when your contract or negotiate rates with them to stay!


Maternity, Paternity, Adoptive and Parents Benefit

From January 1st 2023 the benefits increased from €250 per week to €262 per week


Statutory Sick Pay

If you are an Employee who has worked in company continuously for minimum 13 weeks and and you fall ill you will be able to get paid while sick for 3 days subject to providing a Doctor's Certificate.

This is now a legal requirement in 2023

Sick pay will paid by your employer at 70% of your normal pay up to a maximum of €110 a day.

Remember, you can get also get sick pay if you are on probation, an intern, an apprentice or an agency worker.

The entitlement to paid sick leave is increasing in the next 3 years to 5 days in 2024, 7 days in 2025 and 10 days in 2026.


Some other benefits include:

Free schoolbooks are to be provided to all students in recognised primary schools from September 2023.

The National Childcare Scheme subsidy is increased from €0.50 per hour to €1.40 per hour from January 2023. This means up to an additional €40.50 reduction in weekly childcare fees for parents which is a significant increase.

Free contraception will be included for women aged 16 to 30 from 1 September 2023


State Pension (Aged 66 and under age 80)

Increased from €242.00 to €254.00.

and for those Aged 80 and over:

from €252.00 to €264.00.
