Rent Tax Credit will be €500 a year and will apply to each person paying rent. This is not per each tenancy, therefore if 6 people rent one house, each of the 6 individuals can claim the €500 tax credit. The credit is available for 2022 until 2025 so this January (second half when Revenue let you go through your income tax return) remember to claim back for 2022 when submitting your income return!

Who can claim Rent Tax Credit?
In order to avail of the credits, make sure your landlord is registered with the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB).
You cannot claim this credit if you are receiving social housing support, such as the Housing Assistance Payment (HAP).
Rent Tax Credit is available for each person who is paying rent for their principal private residence.
This means that the credit can be claimed for payments made for an individual's principal private residence, for another residence that facilitates your attendance at work or an approved course and for the residence of a qualifying child attending college. For more information check Revenue's website.
